Increased G-forces (especially +Gz) cause the body to increase heart rate in order to provide adequate blood flow to the brain. When the body is accelerated by nine times its normal speed, blood rushes to the feet, and the heart can’t pump hard enough to get this heavier blood to the brain. Normal humans can only tolerate 9 g for a few seconds at most. ![]() Over 135 pounds of force is applied to the neck at 9Gs as we wear our helmets. High-can G’s cause neck and back problems in the long run, and most pilots experience some amount of general pain as a result of G’s. It looks like a bruise and normally goes away after a few days.
